Whereas orthodox neurology (defined as the generally accepted foundation neurology upon which modern allopathic medical science is based) has developed in a cultural context and worldview that was mechanistic (Newtonian), and whereas the anatomical studies upon which neurology, as a field, have been based were made initially on cadavers (dead human bodies), and whereas the practitioners of this early 'science' were informed by implicit biases of which they were unaware, including principally the Cartesian dictum Cogito Ergo Sum (I think, therefore I am), and since this dictum conflated the brain with thinking, and therefore with identity, pre-disposing the practitioners to focalize neurological priority on brain structures, Hearth Science notes that the fields of 1) Neurology, 2) Neurobiology, 3) Neurophysiology, and 4)Autonomic Physiology are replete with foundational conceptual fallacies that cause them to concretize in neurology and repeat a false brain-centric worldview, including:
•The implicit primacy of the brain over other neural structures (in the body, in the periphery, fascia, skin, etc.) in identity, feeling, and cognition.
•Incorrect evolutionary divisions between the brain (forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain) and spinal cord.
•Incorrect divisions between central and peripheral systems.
•Foundational absence of animacy as a guiding force in neuroplastic developmental and therefore a concommitant absence of awareness of the role of attention in neural processes and development.
•Failure to interpret accurately the cellular growth patterns of neurons, and neurogenesis, in understanding the directionality of neural pathways in the body, leading consistently to confusion in neural systems between source and target, between where neurons originate and where they terminate, which tends to undermine understanding of how nucleii, ganglia, plexuses, etc., are organized, particularly as to their functional and developmental significances.
Hearth Science has been, for the past decade, pioneering in the direction of a novel FOUNDATION MODEL of General Autonomics that, at this time, has integrated the work and conceptualizations of nearly 100 practitioners in 25 disciplines of research and healing. In this graduate-level lecture series we will continue to elaborate this foundation model, which has profound implications for the diagnosis and treatment of stress-related disorders and the creation of enduring wellbeing. The seminar will be balanced between exploring the model and its implications and applications to clinical practice.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: Integrative physicians, naturopathic physicians, psychologists, nurses, trauma therapists, addiction therapists, practitioners of mindbody medicine, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional clinical counselors, bodyworkers, wellness coaches, life coaches, interested laypeople (non-professionals).
ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Gabriel is Founder of Hearth Science, Convener of the Restorative Practices Alliance, and Publisher of Jaguar Imprints. A pioneering connection phenomenologist and neural cartographer, he has led over 2,500 trainings at the intersection of neurophysiology and indigenous and ancestral lifeways internationally. He was asked to train the entire faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine, and has trained Indigenous tribal leaders. He is principal architect of the Autonomic Treatment Atlas, Host and Director of the Restorative Practices Film Series and the Connection Masterclass. His writing has appeared in Psychology Today, and he is author of the Connection Phenomenology series. He stewards the Forestlab eco-reserve in Northern California where Hearth Science is headquartered.
This lecture series is being created in Autumn of 2024 in tandem with a seminar that Gabriel is teaching. Beginning the week of September 9th, and periodically thereafter through the semester, lectures will be added to the course. Lectures will be filmed live in our Northern California film studio (or other interesting & relevant locations) in 4K, before being added to the course. You will maintain lifetime access to the full course archive.
