Elemental Interoceptive Textures Poster

We heal to the extent that we are able to feel ourselves from the inside. Many people, particularly those who have experienced trauma, do not have accurate or nuanced interoception, and are therefore not able to use information from our inward felt sense to inform our responses in life. We default to cognitive schema (problem-solving through thinking) because we don't know how to feel our way toward or away from what we want and don't want. This poster is designed to help your patients and clients bring more awareness to interoception. Accurate interoception is a pre-requisite for embodied awareness and healing. The poster helps bring language and imagery to interior state.

Using images from nature, and common objects and textures, the poster helps bring image and language to the tracking of internal states. Clinicians can invite patients and clients to notice what they are feeling and then see if they can find an image or words that get close to how this feels in the body. This pairing of internal awareness with image and language helps build inner tracking abilities.
