In our winter session, I am going to teach the new book, GROUND: How Modernity Disconnected from the Earth, Why It Matters, and How to Fix It, with a specific focus on deepening our embodied experience of contact with the Living Earth, and autonomic integration of deep grounding states.
The book releases December 15. If you preorder by December 5, you should receive it by December 20.
I will ask that you read the book prior to the beginning of the session, which is not a tiny ask, because it is about 400 pages.
We will meet weekly on 4 x Tuesday mornings: January 13, 20, 27, and February 3, from 7 am to 10 am Pacific time.
(I know that this is an odd time, but it is what we have available due to the vagaries of my clinical schedule.)
I am giving preference in the winter session to previous students of our work who have completed at least a semester of our foundation model seminar or a 5-day retreat or have worked with me clinically. At this time the class is by invitation only.

Modernity, as a moment and a construct of progress (linear time) is largely a domination paradigm. In the book I explore the past 12,000 years of our species’ lineage history (albeit unevenly) with a focus on denaturing events that have shaped our cultural inheritance, including supremacy mind, the long tail of the roman empire, enclosure of the commons, the origin of right angles, and other phenomena that have disconneced us from the earth.
I explore the way that this denaturing has worked in the civilization, and in the past hundred years of my family, using it as a sort of case example.
I then look deeply at the physiology of lifethreat states, and the neurobiological sequelae of getting stuck in lifethreat responses.
The book is an inquiry into what is required of us to heal from millenia’s long injury to our deep rootedness in the earth.
The winter session is experimental, and experiential. It should be a deep learning opportunity for us both. The book is new, and I haven’t taught this stuff that much yet, so it should be an interesting ride. It feels important to me to be teaching these practices during these times.
