Dawn

{A written practice}

Dawn

Amanhecer

The Talmud tell us that dawn begins 72 minutes before sunrise. The roosters tell us that dawn begins when they begin. Interestingly, these timings are usually very close. To rise early with the dawn, to greet the day, if it is clear, is to treat yourself to a visual breakfast of almost unimaginable beauty that unfolds every single morning.

Each time I come out early in the morning, and really concentrate on the colors that precede sunrise, it takes my breath away. That there is this much beauty available to us, every morning, if only we have the wherewithal to notice, is a deep commentary on the human condition. Children, newer in this world, have a tendency to pause, struck by the inescapable and inexhaustable beauty of the Living World. For anyone who has ever tried to paint anything, I invite you to attempt to actually comprehend how the sky transitions from apricot / peaches / and pinks to powder blue in a continuous gradient.

Related Practices:

This is an elemental practice of connecting with the celestial forces, the celestial bodies. In this regard it is related to Watching the Sunrise, following Phases of the Moon, and Stargazing. Certainly it is a form of Meditating in Nature. If you listen to the birds, you may wish to know what they are saying, so learn Bird Language. Like all connection practices, it is a form of building ropes. And learning to connect with the Sun is part of The Original Language.

Who taught us this?

We believe it is innate to want to watch the sunrise.
