In the Dagara Lineage of West Africa
In the Dagara cosmology, the village is the spirit and guiding light of the tribe: the place humans come to fulfill their purpose. The effort of the village is directed toward ensuring that each community member is heard and supported to give the unique gifts their spirit has brought to this world. If this does not happen, the village dies. Without a village, the individual does not have a place to contribute.
Mark Bockley is trained in the lineage of the Dagara indigenous people of Ghana and Burkina Faso in West Africa. As part of our villaging conversations series, we invited him to come help us feel and understand the Dagara worldview as it relates to the creation of healthy communities.
