This video sets context–of where Ilarion is from, and who the Unangan people are. If we may be so bold as to give some orientation here, let us start by suggesting that part of the purpose of this course is to help you re-establish an earth-based pace in your life. Many of us, particularly in interacting with the internet, and video content, are conditioned to move through it at speed. Our invitation here is to be more deliberate. Our invitation for you is to treat each section of the course as an exploration, and to watch it and then reflect on it. In each section we'll include some suggestions for reflection, as well as related practices and exercises. Yet particularly for those raised in a modern, Western context, much of what Ilarion is saying may be very different from how you were raised, or how you view the world. If you are taking this class, our sense is that you are open to experiencing and exploring a novel framework, so we would invite you to bring the class into your life, and test its premises. See if you can be call and response with Ilarion, listening, and then exploring what it might mean to apply what he is saying in your own life. If you are the kind of person who likes to keep a journal, it may be a useful accompaniment to the course. In addition, other creative ways of engaging with and reflecting on the content and its implications are encouraged. Make art about it–paint, draw, sketch. Dance about it, sing about it. Whatever the practices you engage in to reflect, experience, engage with, and process, we encourage you to do that. We also encourage you, if possible, to take the course in community with others, and to engage in shared reflections and inquiry. What does Ilarion say that speaks to you? What do you find challenging? What evokes joy? What evokes grief? There is a transmission in Ilarion's words. We hope you feel it...and that it serves the growth of your heart.
