Welcome to How Your Nervous System Works, a micro-course from Hearth Science.
You have been blessed with a unique mammalian nervous system. Most of the wellbeing you experience in your life, as well as many of the health challenges (up to 80%), will be based on how your Autonomic Nervous System functions. Your Autonomic Nervous System monitors and governs the inside of your body, shaping all of the automatic functions of your interior, from heartrate, to breathing, to bloodflow, to digestion, to immune function, to core temperature. To accomplish this, it interacts constantly with your immune system, and your endocrine system through neural and chemical pathways. It also carries the responsibility to shift the energy templates your body uses to process experience based on whether you feel safe or in danger.
For a system that shapes our wellbeing so deeply, it is surprising that most people don't even know what their Autonomic Nervous System is. In this micro-course we will help you understand your Autonomic Nervous System through the language of water so that you can learn to talk with and listen to your body more helpfully, in service of your greater ease and wellbeing.
