The Daisy Model of Self-Regulation
A Simple Yet Profound Way of Understanding Self-Regulation
Letha Marchetti, OTR/L, C/NDT, SEP, has spent 40 years working in the realm of Occupational Therapy and Neurodevelopment. In her practice, she combines occupational therapy with an approach grounded in Dr. Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing modality to support clients in resolving anxiety, improve sleep, cope with and transform pain, as well as chronic issues like headaches, and resolving the wake of traumatic experiences where people feel stuck. At the root of all of these issues is some form of Autonomic Dysregulation.
One of Letha's gifts is in taking complex neurological concepts, and teaching them in simple and practical forms. She developed the Daisy model to educate her clients about their own nervous systems, so that they could become active agents in supporting their own regulation and wellbeing. In the video above, she explains the Daisy model, explores the way that movement out of regulation happens for different people, and how to use sensory inputs to support regulation. Specifically, she speaks of working with Interoception, the Vestibular sense, and proprioception in simple and practical ways.
