The Autonomic Spectrum Course.
Over the past three years, since launching our deep learning platform, we have worked with thousands of clients in nearly 50 countries, assembling what is likely the world's largest clinical data set on the relationship between autonomic state, symptoms, and restorative interventions.
During this time, Gabriel, and many of our faculty, advisors, partners, colleagues, and clients have been studying and refining the deep learning platform, as well as our understanding of what we are learning about the ANS from this global clinical population.
Gabriel is presently writing The Autonomic Spectrum: Mapping the Neural Landscapes of Wellbeing and Disease, which is available for pre-order. This course is a video companion to the book.
In this course, Gabriel will
- • Examine how our depictions of the neuro-anatomy of the Vagus, and the ANS generally, are preventing us from accurately envisioning what this system does
- • Explore why we believe that neuroception of danger is triphasic with relationship to the three primary Autonomic systems: namely that it consists of a social phase, a boundary-fortifying phase, and a boundary-dissolving phase, all of which can be activated with or without one another, and why this has profound clinical implications
- • Explain why we believe that the current understanding of Polyvagal Theory is lacking an awareness of several body parts that are clearly implicated in the functioning of the ANS and of clinical significance
- • Review the four hybrid states that we are seeing in our work that are beyond the edges of what Polyvagal Theory officially recognizes, namely: negotiating, appeasing, dorsal appeasing, and the trinity state.
- • Present our newest poster on the Science of Safety, which enlarges the visual framework delivered in the Official Polvyagal Poster that we delivered with Dr. Stephen Porges
- • Explain why our understanding of Polyvagal Theory compels us to be engaged in social justice initiatives, and to move beyond capitalism
