Light a Candle

{A Written Practice}

Light a Candle

Candles are more intimate. They cast shadows. Their light is more subtle. They are closer to the original night light: fire light.

Light a candle in a dark room. Suddenly, the walls come alive. The room has a focal point, a bright heart. Shadows dance. Clock time is suspended.

How would we feel if instead of spending hours staring into a little screen, we let our eyes relax in the presence of a candle?

Who taught us this?

We are really just beginning to learn about Cultural Fire. If you are interested in this topic, we encourage you to watch the documentary series Tending the Wild, based on Kat Anderson's book of the same name.
