Taking Charge of Your Own Wellness

Taking Charge of Your Own Wellness

Patient-Centered Care with Dr. Tabatha Parker, ND

In this wide ranging conversation with Dr. Tabatha Parker, Executive Director of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, the largest inter-professional holistic health organization in the United States, we explore the future of medicine and wellbeing. Dr. Parker talks with us about what brought her toward a holistic approach to care that centers the experience of the patient, and works cross-disciplinarily around them, as well as obstacles to this in our current medical system. She speaks of the importance of becoming active agents in our own wellbeing, and how our lives change when we take charge of our own wellbeing.

Wellbeing is a community undertaking. This practice is focused on thinking toward the evolution of medicine, and how we seek healing. It explores a relationship with your healing team based on Turning on the Connection System and Mutual Accompaniment. It is deeply connected to Building Ropes, as we think about creating relationships with a healing team. It is related to Turning Your Nervous System into Your Ally. It is related to the Relationship between Immunity and Stress. It is related to the Daisy Model of Regulation. See The Art & Science of Connection. See The Science of Safety.

If you have come to this film as the beginning of a healing journey, you might construct a sort of sequence that includes the following: if you haven't yet watched it, check out Getting Our Nervous Systems back to Normal, which frames this general project as the healing of the ancestral baseline of the Autonomic Nervous System. Then take the distress mapping. Once you have a clearer sense of how your nervous system is deviated from safety, for addressing particular nervous system states, see Coming out of Fight, Coming out of Flight, Coming out of Freeze, Calming Anxiety, Releasing Fear. From any of those frameworks you will find, in related practices, ways to deepen into the nuances of what you are addressing. We send you much heart, fortification, and wishes of encouragement and self-compassion in your healing journey.
