From Head to Heart in Neurophysiology
with Dr. Stephen Porges, PhD
Dr. Stephen Porges, PhD, is the Developer of Polyvagal Theory. In this conversation, originally recorded as part of our Connection Masterclass series, we deep-dive with Dr. Porges into the origins of Polyvagal Theory, what it teaches us about healing and medicine, and what a medicine and mental health deeply informed by Polyvagal Theory might look like. In addition, Dr. Porges engages with some of our advisors and faculty, notably including Dr. David Mars, PhD, Developer of Transformational Couples Therapy, whose attachment-oriented and polyvagally-informed dyadic work with couples is the basis for our film Healthy Relationships, as well as our facilitator Gloria Yamato, in dialogue around the implications of Polyvagal Theory for the Black Lives Matter movement, and liberatory movements in general.
NB: Please note that there are parts of this conversation that are highly technical. Dr. Porges is a research scientist, and at times uses neurophysiological terms. Many of the key terms he uses can be found in our glossary of terms, which lives under the Hi, menu.
